Bood/Bad Website Smackdown

 Apple vs. Microsoft Website Smackdown

I chose Apple for the good website because they make their products the focus of the home page on their website. They display their new products on the home page without any chaotic or busy backgrounds. Chaotic or busy backgrounds can be very distracting and may deter users from looking at a product or a service that a company is displaying. Having a completely plain background makes it easy to see the products and you are able to click to learn more about the product especially if it was just released. Apple also formatted their website in a way that makes it easy for users to navigate to get to where they need to go which is of course great. When learning more about Apple's products, they provide an in depth explanation of what the product does, what comes with it, and what accessories and other things you can buy for it.

For the bad website I chose Microsoft. The reason I chose Microsoft is because in my opinion, there is too much clutter and repetitiveness happening which could in fact confuse a lot of users. As someone who gets distracted easily I feel as though I would struggle trying to navigate around the home page. While they do good at promoting their newest updated software, it can be frustrating seeing the same thing about it multiple times. The website also sometimes experiences bugs which makes it even more difficult for users to use.

  1. Your point about clean and simple backgrounds really stood out to me, and I like how you explained the importance of that for product visibility. I also appreciate your honesty and personal take on distractions. This explains why cluttered designs are a real problem.

  2. I really liked how you compared these two apps to see which one is good and bad. Using apple as an example is great because it does keep its homepage clean and product-focused which makes it really nice from a user point of view. On the other hand Microsoft has a more cluttered layout and can be hard for users to navigate. I agree that apples are so much smoother to navigate and that it definitely makes it easier to use.

  4. I completely agree with your observations regarding Apple's clear and clean design. It truly makes it simple to concentrate on the merchandise without interruptions. On the other hand, Microsoft's clutter can make it feel overpowering. Simplifying their homepage, in my opinion, would be a huge improvement.
